Easton Community District Heating Network

The team have delivered a DECC awarded SBRI innovation project to heat community buildings at Owen Square Park in the Easton district of Bristol in conjunction with CEPRO, Bath University and Eunomia.

This retrofit project provides solar powered district heating using borehole thermal energy storage in the ground from summer to winter.

The Energy Centre includes an innovative technique for charging ThermalBank heat stores in the ground in summer using air source heat pumps powered by photovoltaic arrays.

Solar Powered District Heating

Summer solar heat is recycled through the ground array and delivered to the buildings in winter by heat pumps in the ICAX Energy Centre.

The control system for the Energy Centre saves electricity costs by avoiding use of Grid electricity at peak hours.
